Reading Intent Statement

At Hargate we aim for pupils to become confident, fluent, independent readers. We want our children to read easily, with good understanding and to develop the habit of reading widely and often for both pleasure and information. We also aim for pupils to acquire a wide vocabulary, an understanding of grammar and a knowledge of linguistic conventions for reading. Children will gain the skills to ask and answer questions about a text and to discuss their understanding and ideas.  We want pupils to establish an appreciation and love of reading and to gain knowledge across the curriculum.
